How might a shoe enhance the rider's experience?

Locked in.
Riders feel confident when their foot is secure in the shoe. An even, quick, and durable closure system is key.
Resist Lateral Flexion.
Riders will laterally flex their ankles when cornering or absorbing compression.

Allow Controlled Ankle Flexion.
Riders will drop their heels as to control the bike in rough terrain. They will raise their heels as they jump over obstacles.
Protect the Foot.
A thick, durable, toe cap is needed to protect the rider's toes and foot from rocks and other trail debris.

Cleanly interface with pedals.
The shoe must be able to slide in and out of a clipless pedal at a moment's notice.
Adjustable Cleat Positioning.
While most gravity riders will prefer the cleat to sit behind the ball of the foot, the cleat must be able to slide to fit all rider's preferences.

Lugged Outsole.
The outsole must be deeply lugged to aid the rider in hiking off the bike.

Market Positioning
An MSRP of $140–$175 positions RIVE in the high-performance footwear market, below the typical $200 price point of leading competitors. Through strategic material selection and simplified modular construction, RIVE delivers premium-level performance at a more accessible price.
How do you build a shoe that delivers performance
in the harshest conditions?

Rapid Ideation with Vizcom
Vizcom AI powered fast form exploration, providing underlays and variations that drove the next design phase.

Vector Rendering with Illustrator
High fidelity vector renderings defined the shoe’s final form and details.
3D Visualization
Using the vector lineworks as reference views, a 3D model was built in Blender to provide accurate visualization and renderings of RIVE.
